From a jam that seemed as if it wasn't going to happen to pulling together everyone, including Josh Rosen to fill in on drums with Drew, Andy who was psyched to play again and Alisa back again. She and Andy were there for the first set while the rest of use jammed till midnight. You know Andy wants to get some good tome when he brings his heavy Ibanez Musician to eat every ounce of Jerry juice he can squeeze. Alisa as was donning Pink as usual as she Donna-ed.
I prepared and distributed the first set setlist to everyone a few days before the jam giving us some preparation time to focus on what we know we would play. With that setlist I decided to pull out the St. Stephen and the Lazy Lightning and they are both exciting to do. To me the Passenger was really exciting as a song, we powered through it and sounded pretty good on it. Andy borrowed my glass slide which didn't quite fit his fingers but he gave it the old college try. I thought the Lazy Lightning was about as good as we can do it. The St. Stephen was also pretty good. I think we had a bit of hesitancy as we went through it which made it seem a bit too laid-back, but I am glad we made a lot of progress on that song and I think I am going to try to keep it in the rotation. There is a lot of good stuff and it can come from places and go to places. We also broke out the Row Jimmy, which has been put away for a while, but I I wanted to take advantage of Andy and Alisa singing together and we pulled that song off pretty well. To open the night we did a really nice Shakedown Street. While we have always been pretty good at it, this one felt like it moved forward from where it has been in the past. I know I focused on adding some additional way to my Bob sounds while also finding new stuff while studying the setlist leading up to the jam. I definitely helps me to have the songs ahead of time to give them a listen and a play.
Alisa and Andy bolted for the second set. I errantly started the Second set, after, Alisa and Andy left, with the Positively 4th Street, and from the first moment I regretted it as I did get the sense I had the band with me, I busted wanted to get through it, though it was sounding ignorant good. Josh asked for the Hard To Handle and Britten belted one out and I think it was a pretty good rendition of it with a good whip to close the jam. We were then off to a series of quick stand alone songs which were all played with good precision and feel. The West LA and Run for the Roses definitely filled that bill. We had 4 more quick one to close the night, with a Don't Ease Me In once again making its presence known as the last song of the night following a Baby Blue. Another really good night of music. Josh and Drew seem to really enjoy playing drums with each other. Till they beat again.
