It was a small night with no guests except Tefillin Ken who was there fore the beginning of the night and jammed a couple of songs while I was setting up the taping equipment.  Short of that it was just the two drummers, Tom Banjo, Kev, Trister and I.  Hopefully we still get our great Caroll's service becuase Dave was complaining that his timpanny weren't taught enough and his gong wasn't polished enough.  Surprisingly, there was little traffic getting into the city.

The music was up and down for the night.  Scott was having trouble seeing, Kevin was having trouble hearing, Tom was having trouble not speaking and I was having trouble just standing still.  Nevertheless, we pulled off a pretty good Sailor Saint which is nice to get on tape and a few other gems.  Around and Around and Tom Thumb Blues were filled with flaws, maybe we should work on easier songs than those.  I thought our Wharf Rat was real good with a real good transition into the waltzing harmony part.

Till next Thursday.

Fellow Deadsinians;

I would like to take a moment to acknowledge and praise the hard work of the Deadstein "grunt", Larry Gindoff. As he always has as long as I've known him, he goes well beyond the call of duty to provide us with quality recordings. I, for one, have enjoyed the hell out of them. A musical mirror can also be cruel, but the 10 minutes or so of magic we produce on any given night never sounded so good. I hereby propose that we each give him ten bucks this week to help offset his costs. I'm going to do it even if the rest of you cheap bastards don't.

God bless America, Deadstein and Gindoff.

I thank Trister for his positive feedback on my taping over that past several weeks. I hope the C's hide some of our bad and enhance our goodness, I think they do and as I listen to them, I am constatntly shocked with how good Deadstein can sound. I was playing Bill Siegel of Carpetsteen the Scarlet --> Estimated froma Few weeks ago and he was floored. Unfortunately, from listening to the special 11 year anniversary CDs you might notice that Deadstein has improved in some areas and in other may not have made any progress in 11 years. It's sad for those who were there from the beginning how similar we sound. You can tell it's us. It's too bad, because Ithought I have gotten better since 1990 but maybe it's all in my head. Maybe it's just the magic of Dennis mixing us on NO that has a particular warmth. Anyway I'm glad someone likes the CDs.

Now for the bad news, there is a very good chance I will not make the jam on Thursday. On monday night, I tried to go to sleep but developed a tremendous pain in my right ankle. I rested and did go to work on Tuesday, in actuality, I couldn't walk, just hop or crawl. Though I feel a lot better today it's still painful to walk. The doctor said I have gout in my ankle and I'm on medecine to cure it and cut down the swelling but I'm not sure I'll be up for the whole jamming experience by tomorrow, I assume I won't. I hope I'm wrong. The good news is my leg is feeling significantly better by the second so who know, maybe miracles happen. Even If I do make it I can't see myself being able to do everthing it takes to tape us, which is too bad, I love this Deadstein stuff.

My feelings about TheGind's taping genius are well-known, but Trister's current acknowledgement is due. It has also forced my hand in setlist flyer design. Be prepared for something apropos. Long live the taper!

Damn Gindoff to hell! I wanted those CD's from last week. C'mon Gind; load up on some painkillers and tell me how to set the shit up...don't let the Gout win!

My father gets the gout in his toe and I've never seen anyone in such pain in my life. If you look at it he screams. I hear it's from too much calcium.

Gind - leave the recording equipment home, and bring your ass and guitar to the jam. I personally will have a chair waiting for you.

TheGind's health is certainly a revolting developement. No one knows the horror of foot pain like me. I feel for you, my little taper, get well soon. If the worst happens and TheGind is unable to make it, we will still be able to celebrate Tefillin Ken's "Last Hora". He is off the Chicago with his growing family next week, and wants to play with us for the whole nite. Baruch Hashem.
