  • Like a Road

We play next Wednesday (9/9/98) then the Thursday (9/17/98) after that.

I think the change of the amps has changed the sound in the room nicely.  From the Bertha forward you could hear a difference.   It opened it up, gives it room and space and therefore the ability to hear better without going louder.  A downward spiral which could be pushed up at will but at least kept down.

What It Means To Be Freak
  • The standard bunch of freaks were in the room and we had big plans for big music and a new variety of food.
  • The first hour we had high quality stuff going on, too bad we couldn't sustain it.  We are just too idiotic to order food on time and get it there at the proper time (9:00 on the dot) to make it all work out.  If we could do that we could play a lot more.  Nevertheless, its quality not quantity but a little quantity would be nice.
  • I think the Bertha was really cool, same beat and groove just nicely light.
  • It went into the flubbed Good Lovin beginning but after that the song worked.
  • Larry smartly substituted the Halfstep for the Loser to pull off the commemorative Englishtown Halfstep.  I think we played did it justice and is something we can be proud of.  Pretty darn hot, trading off leads in the song and in the jam.  Even a good harmony or 1.
  • After the big 5-6-7-1 vs. 5-6-7-8-1 discussion, and there is no 8 for the record the Estimated was hot, nice sounds hot trading off of leads in the song part capped off by Larry and the jam was sweet.
  • It wasn't too long until we moved into the Eyes and we sustained it well.  Once again it wasn't necessarily our forceful approach through the song but a more relaxed and confident respect for the ability of the song to work by itself.   Whatever?
  • The Samson was like the previous two songs was mellow for the powerful type of song it is but nicely so.  It was funny at the end of it that the drummers were like playing a symbol for several measures counting down for a while before going into the drum thing at the end.  They did it long enough for me to make the joke the Andy regarding them getting coffee back there during it.
  • I guess we agreed to last week's posting about a need for a new food type so we decided to go to Delicioso again.  In the meantime, Kevin fell back into a sofa and Andy sat behind the drums and I started doodling Shady Grove stuff and Dave picked up the bass, you can picture it.  Eventually I started a Ragged But I'm Right, played it for a while, trading leads off and with Larry, who joined it while Scott and Andy drummed.
  • Finished that and I decided to play drums, was having a hard time at it so Larry decided to to play the Eleven.  Delisoso MenuYou should have seen my face.
  • This Eventually lead to a really nice Like a Road.
  • When Andy decided to picked up Kevin's B-E-A-D-G-B bass the food came and that was all she wrote.
  • Same but different when it came to the meal.  Baked Ziti w/ meat sauce, meatball parms, salads with no dressing, no knots, standard square pie which looked good but who needed it, it was the same.  No Coke, Cherry Coke.  Rice balls, Ricotta cheese on pasta, bread and butter, yellow coated iced teas, sausage roll, no peppers or onions.
  • End of the night brought traffic down 7th so I risked the Lincoln Tunnel.  Do you know who the LIncoln Tunnel is named after?   Abraham Tunnel.  5-6-Ba-Bum.  The traffic seemed worse than it was because I was home by 5 after 12 in shape to do the posting.
  • This was once of the sweatier nights we had in the room.  My hands dripped to the point of being so wet that they contributed to a significant shock on hand hands from the strings during the Samson.

Spent a little time on the salad, spent a little time on the veal. One knot says he's the butter to my bread the other says just enjoy the meal. I don't know what I've been sold but the burn in my heart runs away from the cold. When I need a Doctor to make me better all I get's an assault and Pepper. One slice or another, one slice or another, one slice or another is all this pie can give.

Good News/Bas News...My new job is pretty official just some last minor level dickering so my Deadstein NYC dyas are also coming rapidly to an end. But the good news is that I am going to immediately begin working on a New England Jam Date for Deadstein, that is if you Freaks are up for that kind of thing. I think my last trip to the city will be for the Spet. 17 jam. The night before I will be at Pearl Jam in Boston (third row). See you all then.

Maybe the Freakboy's new nickname should be "rice balls". It's like the beans and franks line from "Something About Mary" just which is the rice and which is the ball.
