The date of the next jam is scheduled for Thursday, May 3, 2001 at at Carroll's Instrument Rental on 41st street between 8th & 9th Avenues but very close to 9th., 7pm - 11pm   The week after that is still up in the air, I can't play Tuesday, someone can't play Wednesday and someone can't play Thursday

Except for Larry B., the whole band was there at Carroll's.  In addition to Johnny and Kevin, we had a spinning howling night of Michael B. and his entourage.  It included Dan, Dan the Van man as well as several others.  They seemed to dig us quite a bit and we gave it to them big, filled with mistakes but a good night nevertheless.  Andy lugged in his Twin and it was well worth it as he let his hair down.  Scott snag some cool Allman Brothers song  and we got scoppy with a spaced out Riders on the Storm.

After coming back into that room after getting a soda was an experience.  The air was thick.  It was a pretty hot day, the music was hot, the amps were hot and everything was just smoking.  The air in the room the thick, musty, aromatic air.  I don't know what it was and I'm not sure I liked it, but it was it's own element.  There was a lot of good music but we were flubbing time all night, missing cues, structure, etc. but it wasn't bothersome.

Till next Thursday.

April, come down anytime and dance your heart out....you are a good vibe in the room.

We had some brilliant moments, and some not so brilliant. The vibe was good, the mind was willing, although i heard from some of you that my post 80s form needs work...hey, play more pre-80s stuff! Sorry Dave for "stealing" your stones! Gotta fix the Brokedown sheet music. Will take a look this weekend. Next week, I'll bring in Unbroken Chain for everyone. I have a pretty nice transcription. Good Chinese food last night before the jam....unless there are any objections, I am up for it again!

Was that a lot of fun or was it just me? Thank you to our guests. If not for you we would have stopped playing 4 or 5 songs instead of searching for the strngth to save them. And saving them can be so worth it...how about that foolish heart? And Michael, as always a pleasure....I wish you positive healing vibes for your back. Hey Larry I really enjoyed that disc from a couple of weeks ago. Your guitar sounded awesome....I don't always hear it while we're playing. And April, thank you.

The week of the 7th needs firming. the 8th is out. How about the 9th or 10th? Look at your calendars, and reply back here with one, or the other, or both this way we can see which night affords us the "biggest sound"

9th or 10th are good..but i need to know by the next jam...AS IF IT NEEDS TO BE SAID, MICHAEL AND ANY OR ALL OF HIS ENTOURAGE HAVE AN OPEN INVITATION...however i must warn the weak of mind...if you stare directly into the vortex that michael creates you can be knocked down easier then if kevin or the gind want to adjust the mix.

April showers us with compliments, I can't wait to see May flowers. Trister compliments me and all I want to do again is apologize to Dave for Keith Mooning his drum set during a song. Did Kevin do the same thing? If he did at least I don't feel quite as idiotic or maybe we are just idotic brothers. As I stated, I'm good anyday but Tuesday the 8th of May that week. Look forward to our next muckfest.

Michael told me Larry keel will be at Mexicali Blues this Saturday, does anyone want to go?

I forgot to thank Tommy Banjo for the great miracle of 3/9/81. If there was ever a miracle to make for Trister, that should be it. It sounds great and virtually every lead is unbeleivable, simple yet hot, phenominal tone and the type of tape any true Jerry head has to love. I heard it on the way home last night and it was both depressing and inspiring. It's depressing to realize how cheesey and complicated Deadstein is when simple and hot is so much better than anything complex when you have a good tone and there is air to hear it in. It's inspiring to realize that greatness is attainable if you just step back and let yourself just play a few good notes without any bad ones instead a million great notes and a million no so great notes when one good one suffices. 3/9/81 and Madison Sqaure Garden, a time place place that shall live in infamy like 12/7/41 and Pearl Harbor, or is it 12/5/41? No matter what date it is amazing how 3/9/81 poo-poos on 99.44% of the Grateful Dead out there. It doesn't get better than 3/9/81. I have to think it's better than all well done 77 stuff, it just doesn't have the excitement. It seems better than all that 60-early 70's stuff in that Jerry guitar never sounded better and I don't want to even mention mid-eighties.

PS. If I could have made my point without mentioning the 90's I would have but I think you people would have missed the point. Listen to a 3/9/81 Stranger, Althea, CC Rider, Ramble on Rose, Birdsong, Minglewood, China, Rider and don't mention anything to you digest this great stuff. I'm not sure if it gets any better than that.

you are welcome...but there are probably 250 better shows in my collection than that one. in my opinion...but isn't that what makes the Grateful Dead so special? there is something for everyone! enjoy it again and again....now do my 3/19/78, you hump!!!

sounds like banjo has miracles for everyone this week, OR he's trying to give carrolls the line up. Is it 7/28 yet? I think we should come up with the quintesential set list earlier than later. Maybe even "reheArse" those particular songs for the big event. Did I say rehearse? Don't shoot me down, it was just a suggestion. Besides, change is good'

I have miracles for T Ken, LB and AT...but you are correct, I want to fax over the "setup" to Ray and Carroll's.

AS far as your idea is concerned, nothing would make me more excited than to have 3 45 minute sets rehearsed..they will only come in handy every other time we play those songs. It might be a nice change of pace.
