Next jam is a week from next Tuesday.   Deadstein is missing a week due to the big Phil tour as well as Passover.

Just a Bunch of Uppity Freaks

After a week off so much has changed like we were in a time warp.  Scott riding a roller coaster and Larry is once again getting off the ride.  I read the Blair Jackson biography of Jerry while in Mexico and realize issues arise with all group the Dead as well as Deadstein.  It makes you realize how much of a Dead band we are.

A couple of words we discussed from the dictionary:

  • Main Entry: ca·coph·o·ny
: harsh or discordant sound : DISSONANCE 2; specifically : harshness in the sound of words or phrases

  • Main Entry: in·ter·ne·cine
1 : marked by slaughter : DEADLY; especially : mutually destructive
2 : of, relating to, or involving conflict within a group <bitter internecine feuds>

This is the 18th anniversary of my first Dead show which I saw on Easter Sunday at the Nassau Coliseum on 4/11/82.  The night after Jerry played solo at the Capitol Theater.  This night was talked about in the Blair Jackson book as one that disturbed Jerry quite a bit.  He felt very inadequate about it and never played solo again.

Hey now jamming freaks. Gotta love that Sugaree - Foolish Heart. Sat night NYC should be the big guest show. Honestly sad that Phil has left the building. He fkn rocked the house. Orpheum balcony is ready to fkn fall from the bouncing up there. Thought I needed a hard hat during a Bertha that turned my urine purple. Deadstein rules. Johnny the man. Rock Steele

IF YOU ASK ME (AND ON THE HOME PAGE YOU DID) THERE IS ONLY ONE CORRECT ANSWER. FREAKBOY CLEARLY AND MOST DEFINITIVELY IS A GROOPIE. ALL OF YOU ARE GROOPIES. FURTHERMORE, IT IS VERY DISTURBING TO LOG ON TO THE HOME PAGE AND NOT SEE FREAKBOY IN THE PICTURE. THIS SITE SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN UNTIL THAT IS RECTIFIED. FREAKBOY IS NOT A GUITAR STRING NOR A DRUM STICK NOR SOME OTHER INANIMATE OBJECT, HE'S A PERSON JUST LIKE YOU AND ME. IF HE'S NOT A MEMBER, THEN NONE OF YOU ARE.

In an effort to make Kevin a cleaner a crisper bass player for all of us I took action and spent my $200.00 Guitar Center gift cetificate on an Alesis Stereo 31 Band Equalizer. Not the best but not bad either. It will hopefully rid ourselves of that messy standing feedback from Kevin and the drums. My good friend and salesman Wade also suggested office furniture panels angled around the bottom of the drum sets to help in preventing the bass and drums from sonically interacting with each other and allowing big waves from escaping and bouncing all around the room and to be eventually be picked up by all the mics. At a minimum the EQ shold be a big help in cleaning up the sound. We certainly should also try to turn off any mics not being used in particular songs. We'll get there, keep the faith.
