First Set

First Set

The date of the next jam Wednesday February 7, 2001 at SIR Studios

For MP3s from this week right click on the hyperlink on each song and do a "File Save As" to Download the  MP3 file.

Playing at SIR Studios on 25th Street for the second time and it ain't the worst thing.  While it's no WWI, it is a place to play and if Chuck Mangione would have gotten out a little earlier, we could have played more.  Maybe we should write a song, Take this Fluegel Horn and Shove It."  In any case, when we play on Wednesday, February 7, we are going to have to deal with Matchbox 20.  It's a rough world in the rehearsal studio world.

The entire band was at the jam as you can see from the photo above.  In addition, we had Ken show for the early few songs, Scott's friend (I think, Dave and a friend of his were there.  Someone Tommy invites was there for almost the whole.  Short of that, all we had was Dan the sound man.  Speaking of which, it took him and his cohort about an hour for them to set up and get us going but in the end it was worth it.  The tape will be enjoyable.  It's clean sounding.  It just needs more guitar unfortunately.

The music started off loud and obnoxious but by the end of the night it got considerably better to the point that we had some excellent jams, especially in the second set.  We made a DAT soundboard of the jam and I'm listening to the Truckin as we write this.  The tape definitely sounds better than they did from last time in that there is nothing Dreadfully wrong with it.   The vocals sound very good.  Keyboards and drums are  too loud and guitars and bass are too soft in the mix, but overall and better balance than last time.  I'm sure by the time you get your CD's of this it will be pretty good.

We met at and ate at Don Giovanni's Brick Oven Pizza before the jam.  It was pretty good also.  Giants in Superbowl XXXV!  Go Big Blue.

I just wanted to say thanks to Tom for inviting me and thanks to the band for letting me hang out last night. Since it was my first time seeing the band I'm glad I caught a good night with the whole band. You guys sounded tight! There was some great guitar work by all the axmen and the keyboards and rhthym section was groovin'! Larry & Tom's vocals and harmonies were also impressive.I think a couple of songs may have induced an acid flashback or two, and that's a good thing. Great El Paso! Thanks again Tom.

lots of highlights. Some lowlights too. The room was spooked. the sprit of top 40 was still all over the room as Chuck Mangione left a spit puddle on the floor of the stage. SIR is a busy place. we get there is Febraury, but not til the 1st week closes. Giovanni has to start making some pizza and leave it around I lost 2 lbs yesterday!

I think I have some good and anticipated news. This Saturday, Larry Keel Experience is playing at Mexicali Blues from 10-11:p.m. How about some Mexican dinner? In any case, when we Jam next Thursday at SIR we should be talking to their manager about potential opportunities for Deadstein. I spoke to him tonight and he'll be coming in to see us. We'll talk about it more at the jam at vinnies, but you have a week to get psyched.

For dinner, How about Delicoza? The Kabab place. The city is filled with opportunities. Cheese burgers and fries on Gannesvort Street?

Someone make a decision.
