We were back at Caroll's for the second week in a row with Mini-T and Coffee-Boy and Got-Milk.  Thanks for the Coffee, Boy I look forward to it and thanks for the Mini-T.  Great singing.  There were no guests for the evening just us chickens.  Got setup pretty easily, no traffic Monday night, many songs and we got out early.  We were down to business.

The night sounded good and we played pretty well, nailing a few songs, including the Back Street number.  The room also seemed to sound a bit more tamed in the reverb area although we got the smaller Mackie all-in-one PA that hampered the full use of mics and channels.  I only had 12 tracks to use, and with 2 drummers, so it made for a more challenging recording session.  Nevertheless, I'm listeing to it as I write (To Sir With Love) and the quality is better than last week's.  I like the drums better.  It's too bad I failed to hit record during the Thrill is Gone cause it was pretty good.  Only Coffee-Boy and his MiniDisk of MiniT will know what it sounded like.  One last thing, let's no forget the cool matching pink flowered pocket book and mimi-skirt on MiniT, it was this cool pre-retro thing going on that had me dazzeled during something.  The Bonnie Rait song we did sound a lot like To Lay Me Down and that new Norak Jones song that is being played on VH-1.  I'm a sucker for an F#m and C#M combo.

How are the CD's???

Till next Tuesday at Smash, I think.

To Lay Me Down???....Slowly I turn, step by step.....

Let me just say that I am floored by the high level of play that we've got going. Last nite was remarkable in that we were able to tame Big Deadstein and Carroll's into submission, without sacrificing anything. We were loud and hard and spacey, yet precise and graceful and conversational. We are a rhinoceros on acid getting a doctorate in ballet. I am humbled by the sum total might of Deadstein. The talent and magical powers of this line-up are matched only by the kind positiveness saturating the experience.

Extreme goodness.

Cool jam, can't wait to hear "Thrill is gone", oh that's right, Gindoff forgot to push the record button. oh, well.

Cd sounds great, nice mix. I think we need a third drummer!

Yeah we need another drummer just to get the wise cracks drummers are so good at. Just kidding and giving it back to you. I haven't tried the coffee yet, it's still in my mic bag. I think I'm gonna let it aromate the bag a bit before breaking it out for thanksgiving dinner.

I think this weeks CD is going to sound better. I think we all played better and the drums and the room recorded better. I think the Piano is worse though.

Hey Coffee-Boy: I just opened up the kilo of coffee you gave me and after breaking up the rest into 5 smaller, freezer bags, I coursely ground up some beans, threw it in the drip maker and wow. I gotta say, it doesn't hit you over the head like the exagerated coffee, i.e. Starbucks, that I usually drink, but you taste the quality through and through. It's just clean and crisp with no flavors overwhelming it all. Just very smooth, nice coffee flavor, which under the surface seems to be loaded with lots of complex other minor flavors adding up to the drinkg experience I am experiencing.

Thanks again for giving me an excellent half of the wake and bake I am enjoying, the day after Thanksgiving. Now I'm all set to work on the Deadstein mixes with a good to the last drop attitude.

I just want to mention two great moments above and beyond the many very good moments from this jam: 1) Andy's guitar break in the middle of Deal and 2) Therese's tambourine shaking during After Midnight. Maybe the T. is for Tambourine.

Actually, these comments refer to the most recent CD from 11/19. Another great moment is on Hey Pocky Way with TheGind's rhythm guitar riffs and everybody being in their own space creating a great balance of elements. Way to go.
