Who would ever think it, Deadstein makes it for ten years of constant playing once a week almost with out a breather.  Being in the middle of the Phil tour at the Beacon made for a short night, one where we did not get to the overly ambitious setlist of our youth.  In our youth we talked Dead tours, now we talk Phil tours, by the time we reach 20 years we'll be talking about Justin Kruetzmann tours.  In cool fashion, Mike Moskowitz, Liz and one of their friends who I don't know stopped by for a quick hello on this momentous night.  It was so momentous, Tommy Snappa-Banjo made his first trip out of retirement.  Congratulations on the birth of his new Tommy-Snappy-Whappa-Ukelele.  Larry and he had some nice moments including the Straw and the Box of Rain.

Andy had some nice Stella Blue moments with some rich delayed sounding lines.  It was after his amp broke for the 1000th time which is off to Norwines.  By the way, did you check the fuse Andy?  If you recall there was only a 2 amp fuse in it that we couldn't get to blow at Norwine's but the amp calls for a 2.5 amp fuse, In addition, there was a bag of 3 amp fuses Nowine provided you for when this one was to blow.

Short of that, the music was pretty muddy for the night without the great zeal a 10th anniversary deserves.  The Bertha was very well done.  Food was the diner and I feel pretty good for some reason.  The fish sandwich was enjoyable.  We left at 10:00, a real rarity for Deadstein.  

The Mets are winning 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth against St. Louis.  Benitez puts the tying run on with 2 out, a homer wins it but he struck the guy out. This was the longest 9 inning NL play-off game in history.  They are leading this series 2-0 at this point and head back to Shea.  It was an exciting game 2.  The Yanks are 1-1, but Deadstein is officially a Met band and we don't care about the Yanks till they play the Mets in the World Series.  Other issues include the Mideast blowing up between Jews and Arabs as the stock market plummets, oil prices rise and US navel ships get blow out of the water in Yemen.  Till then next Thursday,  Let's go Mets!  Lets Go Jews!!!

Where do I begin? This is an appropriate time to reflect upon the beautiful memories that our Deadstein vehicle has provided for us. So I'll reflect. I remember balloons with searing sounds of rushing air...laughing uncontrolably whilst laying on our backs. I remember the brickwork on the walls of the Perry Street locale and the alley south of our building, parallel to Perry Street. We'd see it when Dennis would open the back gate. I remember going to the roof of the Gansevoort St. and talking about the Manhattan project which supposedly occurred in a neighboring building. I remember Florent burgers for all... showing off my dresses off to the transvestite waiters at our chic eatery. How about the wacky Gansevoort send-off on that makeshift stage in the front room... What about Dennis' strange friends, Benson & Riley. They sound like a cigarette smoking law firm. But we know them as two really freaky guys. More thoughts later.

The long awaited return of Tommy Kazooie! We were lost without you, dude, glad to have you back. Deadstien is like freaky flypaper, you know, and you're stuck right in the middle of the vortex. Some very nice moments last night, except for my amp earning frequent flyer miles in the back of Larry's car. Thank you, Gind, once again. I'm sure I'm only one or two breakdowns away from the "fix it yourself" speech but in the meantime I appreciate your efforts. Happy anniversary...how you guys have kept this up for ten years is beyond me....

Good to be back and get the night off for good behavior! It was fun to show up, surprise you all and see that you missed me! Angie banjo says that 6 months is too long. Look for me in late November-early December! First Box of Rain for me, and I enjoyed it - and I finally hit the Scarlet note right coming back from the big jam! I can learn! Andy, you are right, I am stuck to you guys like glue, happy to know that I am the token gentile in the almost-mitzvah!

I remember that wacky Australian-themed gig in Maryland...Davy taking me out for authentic crab cakes...a large sloped hill in the backyard. I think I lost an aerobie in dem dar hills. Does anyone remember the Australian catch phrase? I rode back to NY with M. Katzman and he told me about Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells. How about Jordy Skopp and his magic trampoline. Dennis would have none of it and tossed him and his tramp out of there. Now that's skoppy. OK. Remeber how the Gind took a likin' to that pork rib sandwich from the deli on Washington St. I think he called it the pork byproduct sandwich. There were no bones. How did they do that? I actually walked by our old Gansevoort stomping grounds on Sunday. I was there to see the Larry Keel Experience at Beefstock. There is now some nouveau store or something where we used to be. Florent is still there. Remember when Dennis would plug in towards the end of the jam. I remember his tight high-pitched guitar stylings. Did anyone ever liken Dennis' way of speaking to Bill Cosby's Fat Albert & the Cosby kids narrator? Let me now go on record as saying so. Over the years, Dennis would expose to different music through videos on tv or cd's. I am forever blown away by the Beatles on Ed Sullivan...and a video of John Fogerty helped me to appreciate the creative genius of CCR... and who could forget Buckethead with Bootsy Collins? Bucketheaddddd... in that drunken drawl of his.
