Deadsstein 7/2/97

Notes:

The night started late because the band took a field trip to the new abode on 38th Street. Security issues need to be resolved but I have a feeling it is going to be a beautiful new home. It won't be a step down but a step in. A step into a new world of in control Deadstein. Destiny is a funny thing when it cracks a joke. La Fortsa Del Destino Oscar
The whole band was there but a recovering Freakboy who is bed ridden. There was a call to play a song for him in his absence, which lasted about one second, but we couldn't get the feedback going on the mics well enough.
larry M. wasn't there as he was moonlighting with his other crew. It's a good thing Deadstein's not Mr. Slate or Flintstone might get fired. Scott did a nice job alone on the skins.
Due to the late start we did not have a prayer to finish Kevin's proposed set. We aborted after the second song and totally replaced it with a new improved second set. Kevin doesn't like mockery of his set lists but the deserve it. Take a look at that disjointed song list. What is the point?
Johnny Spillboy was loving us as ususal and one of Scott's cohorts name Stuart, eventhough his friends call him George, seemed to be miffed by the whole new experience.

Ben's before with a Spillboy purchase of Hostess Cherry Chimichanga Pies. Eventhough I didn't have any, I am sure they taste better than they look.

Second Set Comments: Brrp! Ahhh! Help me! Are we really going to play? Boy it's cold in the studio. I want dessert! What are we going to cut out? Shit, I wished I washed my hands. My eye is bulging out of my socket. Damn us to Hell!

It got hot but it wasn't oppressive

		General Comments Talk it up. Be nice. please say something or I will loose my desire to write these things up. Fill in the deatils, the fun little stories that I cannot remember. The little things like Allison calling exactly as the last note of the first set ends

Just want to say thanks to those of you who participated in the 38th street field trip. It turned out to be a thumbs up reaction. We have a few more obsticals/ options to cross, but we should have a green light shortly. I really enjoyed the 2nd set myself being that there was no real 1st set. Enjoyed the Furthur festival with LB and co. Happy 4th

I usually don't respond to negative comments about my setlists, but because it's TheGind, and he's making it public, I must explain. "Disjointed...what's the point"--if TheGind will refer to his Deadbase: 7/2/81 The Summit, Houston Texas, he will see a familiar sight. The first set song-for-song, except the FOTD replaced by a Lazy River Road (because we did FOTD last week). The second set, I will admit is not a conventional line-up, but it's origins are stemmed deep in the knowledge of that nights' plans. A field trip, "sound boards"; I knew there was no way we would finish 2 complete sets, so I threw in some extra tunes we could pick & choose from; thinking it would be 1 long set. Genuine Dead setlists, and solid pre-planning, are reasons enough to validate my list. Hey, no one said it was a good list (not every list can be 10/9/89), but it's valid.

I had no problems with the first set, it is coherent. The second set is what irks my fancy. Hey I'm not doing it so who is to complain. If I didn't have the set list I'd have to think of more picture to post. Keep up the bad work.
