Kevin's Set List
Next Jam: I Tuesday May 20, 1997
Notes:
  • This was an odd jam and posting. I was on vacation in Hawaii and Scott was also away and unable to make it
  • Luckily, Larry B. was able to get Jonathan Spitz to fill in for.

Talk it up. Be nice. please say something or I will loose my desire to write these things up. Fill in the deatils, the fun little stories that I cannot remember. The little things like Allison calling exactly as the last note of the first set ends

A very enjoyable evening was had by all. Larry M set up his kit low in front of his riser,it made for a very tight jam

1st set comments : Larry B took the night off from singing after the 1/2 step. Cassidy was a nice choice for the second slot because it allowed us to to gel a bit in the jam. Larry M took up a break neck pace on the drums during the jackaroe, el paso cumberland, the room was rockin !! BOIDTL was an add on and nicely done. Throwin Stones was a bit shaky at times but GDTRFB was a nice recovery and the closer cooked. The last two add ons to the list, natural segues ( I'll leave it to Kevin to critique the food)

2nd set comments

Stagg and Ship both well played and solid. Spitz starts Eyes and we all jump in! The Other One is adequate but Jon breaks a string during the Stella Blue. This is the only other song I snag tonight and it was nice to take a break. I believe Kevin also bailed before it was over. Somehow we muster up a fairly lame JB Goode and that's a wrap. Kudos to Mssrs. Spitz and Menaker for and intesting perspective.

Brent's comments pretty much sum it up. Enjoyed it thoroughly and felt pretty good about only having minimal moments of not knowing where the hellI was (e.g Stagger Lee jam, although the tune came off well overall).

First Set highlight might have been Cumberland...very tight for such a tune...

Ship of Fools I think conjured up the best moments for me... Eyes was also excellent...gotta think about those G#m chords... I think someone said we were in '74 mode, so I threw that in as a contribution...Other One was just OK as Other One's go... I think we were starting to run out of steam. Too bad about the Stella and my poor D string...maybe I shoulda started with a fresh set...but all the tuning that would have caused! I barely stayed close to in tune the whole night!

Thanks, boys...will be back...it was nice to get the invite... I'll just crash next time if I don't get a call soon enough!
